Professor Hockings led the development of State of the Parks evaluation systems for NSW National Parks and Parks Victoria. These systems are used by the two state agencies to assess the effectiveness of the management of all their protected areas (over 1300 across the two states) on a regular basis and to use the information from the assessments to support planning and adaptive management of their reserves.
Prof Hockings has subsequently used the same approach to develop assessment systems for protected areas in South Korea, Thailand, Colombia and the Galapagos Islands working with governments WWF and IUCN.
