Researcher biography

Courtney is a PhD candidate at The University of Queensland working in the Maron Ecology and Conservation Policy Lab, and the Centre for Biodiversity and Conservation Science with Professor Martine Maron, Dr April Reside and Dr Jeremy Simmonds. Her PhD project explores the decline of avian species of the temperate and sub-tropical woodlands of eastern Australia, following the direct and indirect impacts of land-clearing and fragmentation. Specifically, she seeks to understand how habitat characteristics serve to mitigate or exacerbate these threats to woodland birds. Increased understanding of these relationships will better inform on-ground conservation management activities, particularly in regards to managing the overabundance of aggressive native honeyeaters – a key threatening process to woodland birds listed under national legislation, and in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria.
