Tallis Baker
Researcher biography
I completed my dual Bachelor of Science and Arts in Marine Science and Writing in 2020. As part of these degrees, I participated in several undergraduate research projects – investigating bioremediation of alkaline bauxite residue leachate, monitoring the blue carbon stock of a restored mangrove forest, and researching energy companies’ communication of climate change.
I am currently working on my Honours project looking at the socioeconomic and environmental factors that contribute to wetland restoration and conservation in south-east Queensland, supervised by Professor Cath Lovelock. My interests include mangroves, climate change, and the human aspect of environmental management. Given that environmental issues stem from human activities and cannot be solved without accounting for the human aspect, I am interested in how environmental attitudes and behaviour develop. I am hoping that my research into the relationship between SEQ demographics and wetland conservation will inform this interest.
