Researcher biography
Jemma is in her fourth and final year of a Bachelor of Environmental Science with an Ecology and Conservation Major. As part of her degree, she was able to work on a research project investigating tropical peatland ecosystem services and the effect of land use change on them. This project followed on from field work she completed in Indonesia with a multidisciplinary team of communication and law students to create a community engagement strategy for peatland restoration programs developed by the Indonesian government.
This year she is completing her honours thesis project on the role of policy in managing sustainable land use for coral reef conservation with supervision from Amelia Wenger. Using a combination of ecological theory, spatial analysis, and policy evaluation she aims to create a basis for effective coral reef conservation.
