Gareth Kindler

Researcher biography
Gareth Kindler is a PhD candidate working with Professor James Watson and Professor Martine Maron of CBCS. His passion lies with nature conservation, but it has been a zigzag path to find the groove to apply this. Gareth began with a Bachelor of Medical Science, before jumping to an Honours project in Environmental Microbiology studying the hypersaline microbial communities of Shark Bay, Western Australia.
His current research asks questions crucial to uncovering what is holding Australian biodiversity conservation back from being more successful. As institutions wield enormous power in this area it has led him to looking through a political lens. By taking this perspective, Gareth hopes to highlight the causes behind policy/legislative shortfalls and insufficient resource allocation.
