Researcher biography
Ruby is a current Masters of Conservation Biology student, graduating mid 2023. She has extensive volunteer experience including community-based fisheries management with Blue Ventures in Madagascar, mammal conservation with the Marine Mammal Foundation in Melbourne and community outreach with Ocean Connect on the Gold Coast. Ruby is particularly interested in marine conservation involving blue carbon ecosystem restoration and engagement with Indigenous communities.
She is seeking employment from July 2023 as a research or lab assistant during a six-month break before returning to UQ in January 2024 to complete a research project, part of the Masters of Conservation Science.
Ruby grew up in north-east Melbourne, with a love for the ocean fostered by summer holidays spent at Anglesea and Phillip Island. She is an advanced open water PADI scuba diver and SSI certified free diver. Ruby graduated in 2020 with a Bachelor of Science majoring in marine biology from The University of Melbourne.
