Researcher biography

Dr Lasinidu Jayarathna is a Senior Research Assistant in the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences at The University of Queensland. Currently, she is mainly involved in the research project led by Dr Laura Sonter on the global biodiversity impacts of mining materials needed to support renewable energy production.

Lasinidu completed a doctorate in spatial science at the Centre for Agriculture and Bioeconomy, Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in 2021. Lasinidu also earned a BSc in agriculture and a MSc in geo-informatics from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. Her research interests include spatial data analysis and modelling, spatial statistics, land use mapping, satellite and airborne remote sensing applications, and 2D/3D geospatial data generation and mapping.
