Researcher biography

Originally from Brazil, Gabriel is a current Master of Conservation Science student, graduating at the end of 2023. As part of the Conservation Science program, he is working on a research project supervised by Berndt Janse Van Rensburg that focuses on assessing the nocturnal diversity of vocal wildlife in the Hidden Vale and correlating it with acoustic indices.

He grew up in the Brazilian Atlantic Rainforest with a profound interest in understanding the ecological processes of the forest and its proper conservation. He graduated with a bachelor's in biological science in 2020 at the Pontificia Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro. In 2017, he received a scholarship to work at the Botanical Garden of Rio de Janeiro.

With a background in music production, Gabriel's dreams of combining acoustics with biodiversity conservation became a reality with the growing field of soundscape and eco-acoustics.
