Researcher biography

Jayden is an environmental engineer and scientist who is interested in improving how we assess, manage and monitor the impacts of human activities on ecosystems.

As a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, he develops decision-support tools for ecologically responsible mining, with a focus on the minerals and metals needed to power the transition to clean energy. During his PhD, Jayden developed conceptual frameworks and mathematical models to assess the potential environmental impacts of the nascent deep-sea mining industry, informing proactive, rather than reactive, management of ocean ecosystems.

Before his PhD, Jayden worked as a water engineer, assessing the impacts of flooding and stormwater in coastal development areas, and as an environmental scientist and scuba diver, conducting marine baseline studies and monitoring programs in Australia and abroad. By connecting engineering and science, Jayden’s research aims to create novel solutions with positive outcomes for nature and people.
