Researcher biography
Chiaki is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow interested in improving how we assess and manage the impacts of human activities on ecosystems by combining computer vision and behavioural ecology. Her role in the Lanyon lab focuses on developing robust methods to monitor the body condition of dugongs using drone photogrammetry and providing baseline data for variation in body condition.
She recently completed her PhD in Informatics, investigating the feeding behaviour of dugongs in Thailand. She has also developed frameworks to assess when, where, and how dugongs feed through acoustic monitoring and drone image analysis, as well as to track toads in steep mountains using drone-based radiotelemetry.
