Researcher biography

Giles is currently studying a Master of Conservation Science part time at the University of Queensland.

Growing up in Canberra, Giles completed a Bachelor of Science at the Australian National University with a specialisation in Evolution and Ecology. After graduating in 2020, he began working for the federal environment department and, since 2022, has worked for the federal government’s Threatened Species Commissioner, shaping the design of policy and programs to maximise outcomes for Australia’s threatened species.

Giles is interested in using science to inform conservation policy and natural resource management and hopes to build on his expertise through further involvement in research and on-ground management. Giles has a particular interest in the conservation of terrestrial vertebrates, especially mammals.
