Researcher biography

Australian subtropical rainforests are home to hundreds of tree species from many branches of the tree of life, and my research group studies the ecology that shapes their distributions and life histories. We use functional traits to explain why these species occur where they do, how they grow, survive, and recruit, and how they respond to experimental stress such as drought and shade. We measure these traits from seedlings through to towering mature trees, to understand how species' strategies shift across life stages. Together, this work builds a fundamental understanding of rainforest tree ecology that we apply to develop restoration and urban greening strategies ready to meet the future challenges of climate change.
