Researcher biography

Hi, I’m Mitch! I’m currently completing a Masters of Conservation Biology at UQ. I grew up in Gladstone, Central QLD, but now call Brisbane home. From a young age, I was immersed in the beauty of the natural world, where I was often found camping and hiking. In stark contrast, I also witnessed the devastating impacts of heavy industry on the environment.

This sparked my passion for wild places and for protecting the wild places we have left. For the three years prior to studying, I worked as a Park Ranger for QPWS. My work threw me into the wide world of conservation, helping manage the rainforests in Lamington National Park and working with threatened turtles at Mon Repos Turtle Centre. I am now looking to develop a deeper scientific understanding of ecology. I am interested in contributing to field-based ecological research.
