Researcher biography

Kate is an environmental data scientist working as a research assistant with the Ocean Conservation Team, focusing on fisheries management and the global conservation of threatened species.  She holds a Bachelor's in Environmental Science and a Master's in Environmental Data Science from the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Currently, Kate is contributing to two projects. She is working under the supervision of Leslie Roberson, on a project focused on data driven approaches to inform more effective bycatch targets and fisheries management strategies. Additionally, she will be working under the supervision of Rosa Dominguez Martinez, on a project focused on analyzing threatened species legislation and trade.

Kate is passionate about environmental sustainability, policy, and conservation. She aspires to integrate her experience in data science with her passions to advance data-driven approaches that increase scientific transparency, foster effective conservation policies, and improve marine conservation practices worldwide.
