Samantha Wong-Topp

Researcher biography
Samantha Wong-Topp is a PhD candidate at The University of Queensland, School of The Environment, supervised by Professor Richard Fuller, Associate Professor Renee Zahnow and Associate Professor Angela Dean. Her research explores how historic and contemporary inequities - such as redlining and socioeconomic disparities - have shaped urban environments, contributing to present-day patterns of environmental injustice and urban ecology. Through this work, she aims to inform strategies for building more biodiverse and equitable cities. She also works as a Casual Academic and Research Assistant, holding roles at The University of Queensland and the Centre for Biodiversity and Conservation Science.
Prior to undertaking research, she worked as an Emmy-nominated journalist in Hong Kong, where she covered science and politics for a variety of publications including NBC News and VICE News. She holds a Bachelor of Arts (Geography) from The University of Melbourne.
